DOT Physicals
Total Family Healthcare is pleased to offer Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals conducted by a licensed medical examiner listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. You can be assured that your physical will meet all the required standards and the proper paperwork will be submitted for you to obtain a CDL medical card.
Total Family Healthcare complies with all federal regulations regarding DOT physicals. When you call us for an appointment, please let us know that your exam is for a CDL medical card so we can be sure to schedule you with a properly licensed medical examiner.
In order to pass your DOT physical exam, you must pass all requirements. These include:
- Vision. Federal DOT requires at least 20/40 acuity in each eye with or without correction (eyeglasses or contacts) and at least 70 degrees of peripheral vision. You will also be tested to prove you can distinguish traffic signal colors.
- Hearing. The current standard is being able to hear a forced whisper voice at five feet or more with or without hearing aid. Should you fail that test, you will need to pass a formal hearing test with an audiometer.
- Blood Pressure. To pass unqualified, your blood pressure must be less than or equal to 140/90.
- Full Medical History. Please be prepared to provide comprehensive information for your health records.
- Thorough Physical Exam. Expect your medical examiner to conduct all the usual tests to assess your general, overall health.
- Urine Test. You must comply with a urine test to clear you of Schedule 1 drug usage.
We will go over a checklist with you so you are fully prepared on the day of your exam. Whether you are scheduling your first exam or needing re-certification, we will do our part of assessing your fitness to drive. Please call for an appointment.
